  • It is with great joy that I see Jorge Lopes’ recent paintings.
They are painted according to a precise concept and belief. Although at the beginning he painted in a strictly figurative way, based on the nature and rural environment where he was born and raised, the truth is that we can now see that his painting developed in a biographic way. By these words, I wish to imply that at the same time, his experiences changed with the impact of the city, and so did his painting. (…) It’s not difficult to see that the cities were built in the same way. On top of a nature previous to the nature of the cities. (…) The paint dissolves the questions and shapes them into a defined object. Where the canvas is not pretending to be more than they are. Autonomy and memories of ideas that have already been digested, which are only meant to think of painting through painting itself.
Jorge Lopes accepts that the canvas is a surface that makes him struggle not only with the display that surrounds him but also with the display of the act of displaying.
He ends up creating an aesthetic concept represented in several ways.
