The large canvas work by Jorges Lopes remains just as ambiguous. It combines figurative and abstract elements, some of which are only recognizable at a second glance. Lopes has a playful approach to the history of painting. He intersperses its language as quotations – geometric shapes such as circles and lines or figurative elements such as skulls and a crucified Jesus – and combines them with gestural forms, creating harmonious breaks and irritations. The humorous title Two Eggs and a Few Balls alludes not only literally to elements in the picture but also to the courage with which he encounters painting, which he explores with relish.
